James Duncan (musician)

James Duncan (born November 12, 1968) is a Canadian born musician, improviser and house music producer. He has recorded under his own name and has appeared on recordings in diverse genres such as free jazz, indie rock and post-punk as a musician.

He has released solo 12" house records on Dancetracks, Chair Recordings, London's Real Soon and his own inprint, Le Systeme Records.

As a musician, he is an active member of NYC's experimental free jazz/noise scene, mostly through his work in Izititiz (members of No Neck Blues Band, TEST, Enos Slaughter). He has recorded and performed with Metro Area and also Morgan Geist, both on Environ Records. He appeared on The Rapture's "House of Jealous Lovers" 12" (Morgan Geist Remix) that kicked off DFA Records. He has worked with Brooklyn based The Silent League (Mercury Rev//The Arcade Fire/Beirut) and Jon DeRosa's NY based project Aarktica. He also plays guitar in Glenn Branca's 100 Guitar Orchestra.

He has performed at a number of high profile venues and in a variety of musical settings. Performances include appearances at concert venues such as The Lincoln Center, MOMA's PS1, The Winter Music Conference in Miami, John Zorn's The Stone (NYC), The Knitting Factory, PS 122 (NYC) and clubs such as NY's Club Love and APT.

Currently, he plays trumpet as a guest in Arthur's Landing (Strut), a group composed of colleagues and close collaborators of the late, great NY Cellist and Composer Arthur_Russell_(musician). He lives in Toronto, On, Canada.
